Just watched Cold Mountain last night, when it first came out i was a little sceptical and didn't go to the cinema to watch it, (fed-up with hollywood's rendering of there version of history) so when my girlfriend picked a copy up from our local rental shop i sat down begrudgingly and watched it.

i must admit i enjoyed it, the opening scenes were to say the least were the most realistic i've seen to date, the rest of the film is a compelling story with a nasty twist at the end. i won't say any more about the film, but suggest that if you haven't seen it yet then do.

i give this 9/10 over all a good film

Well Droney, if no one else will talk to you, I will. I thought the movie was good, although I don't appreciate gratuitous sex, maybe its envy. The story took place here in North Carolina and is historically accurate. The interesting thing is that it was filmed mostly in Romania! The only parts filmed here were the scenes of him escaping, the swamp, etc.

I guess that's only fair, the movie "Last of the Mohicans" was supposed to take place in upstate New York, but it was actually filmed here.

I think the best part of "Cold Mountain" was the music, it is very authentic to the period and location. I love traveling through the Blue Ridge, that kind of music is still being played there.

Didn't respond before because I hadn't seen it yet. I went and rented it tonight, but still haven't watched it. Looks like it will be tomorrow, now. Looking forward to it, though. I read the book over a year ago, and found it beautifully done. A good read.

My wife read the book and then insisted we see the movie. I assumed that with more kissing then bullets it was a chick flik, but I was happily surprised. Rene Z. plays a character that makes the movie. She deserved the award.

Well, just finished watching it and give it two thumbs up. But, like most movies based on books, it wasn't as good as the book and I suggest reading it even after seeing the movie. The characters are fleshed out alot more in the book. I agree with you on Rene Z.

Also a few differences. RW, the sex in the movie was also in the book so wasn't just some Hollywood enhancing. In the book Inman goes back and settles up with the guy and the immoral women. He takes the reward money the guy was given and gives it to the young mother, if I remember right.
