I'm a big OLYMPICS fan, have been ever since I was a child.

I see the Olympics as one of the rare events where people of the world should be able to set aside all differences and experience comeraderie and good will, and PEACE, even for just a couple of weeks.

I'm uneasy about Athens. Not really sure why. I think it's a combination of things...what happened at Munich in 1972...Greece getting behind and having to rush things to completion...the recent bombings in Athens...the incredible burden that security there will impose because of all the people and those wonderful young athletes of all nations.

Your thoughts on this? Am I over-reacting?

The Greeks overall seem or appear to have a happy go lucky attitude to their organisation but they have recently taken their biggest terrorist group out of the game after a very long battle their last victim being the British military attache to Greece.
I think we can safely say that every man and his dog's security service will be tuned into the Olympics to prevent a Munich style seige - it was because of that that the Brit. SAS started CRW (Counter Revolutionary Warfare) training in a big way.
It does however only need a suicidal fanatic or two to blow themselves up to cause the headlines we don't want to see so internal security will have to be very tight. I think it will be ok in the end but vigilance is the key.

Although the Olympics would seem to be an ideal target for Muslim extremists such as Al qaeda, I doubt that even they would be stupid enough to target such an international event. At present AlQaeda do have some sympathy from other muslim nations and to bomb such an event would carry the risk of alienating those countries and destroy the sympathy/support that they have so far received. Maybe Im being to Logical and naive, maybe al Qaeda dont work that logically and dont really care about international support. Of course there is also the possibility of other, less well known terrorist groups attacking this special event.
